การใช้คำนามในภาษาอังกฤษเกี่ยวข้องกับกานใช้ article (a,an,the) ซึ่งแบ่งออกเป็นการใช้อย่างชี้เฉพาะและไม่ชี้เฉพาะ

แต่ชื่อนิตยสารไม่ใช้ เช่น Newsweek, Time

1. ชื่อกีฬาตามหลัง to play ไม่ใช้ the เช่น He plays tennis very well.

แต่ถ้าเครื่องดนตรีตามหลัง to play ใช้ the เช่น He plays the piano.

15. ชื่อทิศทางภูมิศาสตร์ ถ้าหมายถึง ภาคหรือชื่อทิศ ใช้ the

ข้อสังเกต : การใช้ the กับทิศ (east, west, north, south) นอกจากใช้เป็นคำนามแล้ว ยังเป็น adverb ได้ สังเกตไม่ใช้ “The” นำหน้าชื่อทิศ

3. If you look to the south, the north is behind you.

ใช้ the นำหน้าทิศหรือไม่ใช้ก็ได้ แต่ถ้าบอกทิศทางไม่ใช้ the เช่น

17. Double comparative เป็นการบอกลักษณะการเพิ่มหรือลดลงในลักษณะเดียวกัน

You eat more. You get fatter.

Present Simple

Verb ที่ไม่ใช้เป็น continuous

Look, seem, appear, hold = contain, belong to, know, understand, remember, recognize, want, wish, prefer, love, like, adore, dislike, hate, see, hear, smell, taste, feel, consist, deserve, matter, mean, resemble, sound

We believe that father will spend Christmas with us, but Mary doubts whether he will.

The farmers are hoping for rain.

Past simple

ใช้กริยาช่อง 2 He ran.

เมื่อใช้เป็นประโยคปฏิเสธหรือคำถาม ใช้ did+V1

Past Perfect

Had + V3

1.เป็นเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นก่อน ณ จุดเวลาหนึ่งในอดีต

I had never seen this film before.

2.ใช้คู่กับ past simple: past perfect อดีตที่เกิดขึ้นก่อน past simple อดีตที่เกิดซ้อนขึ้น

Conjunction of time: when, before, after, as soon as, until

He had finished his work before he went home.

ข้อสังเกต past simple ใช้คู่กับ past cont. และ past perfect ได้ ให้เปรียบเทียบความหมายในการใช้ว่าอะไรใช้คู่กับ tense ไหน

Future Simple

1 .will shall เป็นการแสดงอนาคตที่แท้จริง

Summer will come again.

Tomorrow will be his birthday.

I, we ใช้ shall

You, he, she, it, ใช้ will

ถ้าใช้สับบุรุษกัน

I, we ใช้ will เป็นการให้สัญญา

You, he, she, it, ใช้ shall หรือการขู่ของผู้พูด

2. to be going to แสดงอนาคตอันใกล้

2.1 การแสดงความตั้งใจของประธาน

He’s going to be a doctor when he grows up.

2.2 เป็นการคาดคะเนของผู้พูด

That boy is going to be sick; he’s quite green.

2.3แสดง very near future

Run! The bus is going to start.

3. present simple + adv. of time in the future เป็นอนาคตที่มีการเตรียม

Future Continuous

Will, shall be + v.ing

ณ เวลาหนึ่งในอนาคต จะมีเหตุการณ์อย่างหนึ่งที่กำลังดำเนินอยู่

At this time tomorrow he will be sleeping.

Future Perfect Simple

Will/shall have + V3

ณ เวลาหนึ่งในอนาคต จะมีเหตุการณ์หนึ่งสิ้นสุดจะใช้ by + time

By the time he arrives home, everyone will have gone to bed.

By ten o’clock, everyone will have gone to bed.

Present Perfect simple

Have/has+ V3

1.เป็นเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในอดีต ดำเนินเรื่อยมาจนถึงปัจจุบันใช้

Since + จุดเวลา

2. เป็นเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในอดีต และสิ้นสุดก่อนที่จะพูด ผลการกระทำยังคงปรากฏอยู่ และมักมีความรู้สึกผูกพันกับเหตุการณ์นั้น มักมี just already yet lately recently

3.เป็นเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นหลายครั้งในอดีต แต่ไม่รู้จุดเริ่มต้นและจุดจบว่าจะเกิดขึ้นและสิ้นสุดเมื่อไหร่ มักมี adv. of frequency อยู่ด้วย

Adverb of time

The position and order of Adverb

ตามปกติตำแหน่งของ Adverb มี 3 ลักษณะ

1. mid-position วางไว้หน้ากริยา หรือหลังกริยาช่วย

He suddenly shouted.

He has never been to Chiang Mai.

1. end-position

He shouted suddenly.

Ann arrived early.

1. initial position วางไว้หน้าประโยค

Suddenly he shouted

Tomorrow I shan’t come early.

Adverb บางตคัวไม่สามารถเขียนได้ทั้ง 3 ตำแหน่ง แต่ Adverb ส่วนใหญ่สามารถวางไว้ได้ทุกตำแหน่ง

She slowly spelled out her name to the shopkeeper.

She spelled put her name to the shopkeeper slowly.

Adverbs ที่ไม่สามารถวางได้ใน mid-position

1. Adverbs of place.

The students are sitting outside.

1. Adverbs of definite time อาจอยู่ต้นประโยคหรือท้ายประโยค

She used to live there last year.

Tomorrow I shall meet you.

1. Adverbs of evaluation อยู่ในตำแหน่ง end-position

Yesterday she unexpectedly met her old friend in the middle of the road.

1. ถ้ามี Adverb ประเภทเดียวกันในประโยค ให้เรียงจากส่วนย่อยไปหาส่วนใหญ่

1. ถ้ามี Adverb of manner 2 ตัวในประโยคเดียวกัน ให้วางตัวที่มีเสียงสั้นไว้เป็นตัวแรก และใช้ and เป็นตัวเชื่อมกันของ Adverbs ที่มีเสียงยาวกว่า

Perfect Infinitives

Perfect Infinitives ที่ตามหลังกริยาช่วย

He ought to have written to me.(but he didn’t)

2. could have + V แสดงความสามารถที่ตรงข้ามกับความจริงในอดีต

He couldn’t have swum across this river. (but he did)

3. should

แสดงความปรารถนาที่ตรงข้ามกันในอดีต

I should have liked to see it. (but I didn’t)

4. was/were to have + V เป็นการวางแผนที่ตรงข้ามในอดีต

The house was to have been ready today. (but as there has been a builders’ strike it is still only half finished.)

(ข้อ 1-4 จะตรงข้ามความจริงในอดีต)

5. needn’t have + V ไม่จำเป็นแต่ก็ได้กระทำ

I needn’t have written to him because he phoned me shortly afterwards.

(but I didn’t write, thus wasting my time)

didn’t have to ไม่จำเป็นก็ไม่กระทำ

I didn’t have to translate it for him for he understands Latin.

การใช้ must , have to

1. must = have to เป็นการบังคับ (Obligation)

He must go now.

He has to go now.

เป็นปฏิเสธ หรือ คำถาม ใช้ v. to do มาช่วย have to

He doesn’t have to come here.

เป็น past tense ใช้ had to.

He had to stay up late last night.

เป็นปฏิเสธ หรือ คำถาม did มาช่วย

He didn’t have to buy a new book

2. must หมายถึง กฎ, ระเบียบ, ข้อบังคับ

Students must wear white shirts,

ถ้าเป็นการห้ามใช้ mustn’t

Students mustn’t wear coloured shirts.

3. must = need

People must rest, needn’t they?

4. must = I’m certain, I’m sure.

ถ้ามีความหมายเป็น present ใช้ must ปฏิเสธใช้ can’t

There’s someone at the door. It must be John,

=I’m sure it is John.

John is 15 years old, he can’t be a manager.

ถ้าเป็น past ใช้ must have + V

ปฏิเสธใช้ can’t have + V

My garden was flooded. It must have rained very hard last night.

This table is very heavy. He can’t have moved it by himself.
